Frequently Asked Question’s

How Can We Help?

We advocate for those who are battling these diseases everyday even if it’s not visible on the outside. We aim to provide as many resources as possible for any students/youth diagnosed to know they have a network of support during a diagnosis that can feel very isolating.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract. It is named after Dr. Burrill B. Crohn, who, along with his colleagues, first described the condition in 1932. Crohn’s disease can cause inflammation and damage in any part of the digestive system, from the mouth to the anus, although it most commonly affects the small intestine and the beginning of the large intestine (colon).

It’s important for individuals with Crohn’s disease to work closely with their healthcare team to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and goals. Ongoing research and advancements in medical science continue to explore potential cures and novel therapies for Crohn’s disease.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the intestines that does not have an identifiable cause (such as infection). IBD is thought to arise from the abnormally active immune system that reacts to food, bacteria and other contents of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

Crohn’s disease can manifest with a variety of symptoms. The most common ones include persistent abdominal pain and cramping, chronic diarrhea (sometimes with blood), unintended weight loss, fatigue, fever, rectal bleeding, and loss of appetite. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and may fluctuate over time. It’s important for individuals experiencing these symptoms to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
